Brisbane Broncos prop Jarrod Wallace has backed the World Club Series to continue amid concerns about its immediate future.

The discussion over the importance of the series surfaced after a second straight year of thrashings handed out by Australian teams over their English counterparts.

Wallace’s Broncos defeated the Wigan Warriors 42-12, the Sydney Roosters demolished St Helens 38-12 and the North Queensland Cowboys trounced Leeds 38-4, making it a combined score of 118-28.

These are worrying signs for the UK Super League with the gap in class to the NRL seemingly growing each year.

Despite this, Wallace says the series delivers great preparation for the long season ahead.

"I think it’s a great thing to do. Hopefully I get a few more chances to come over here and play some footy or even if they come over to Australia and play over there," said Wallace.

"It’s a great test to see where the English and Australian teams are at; you only get that when you play each other.

"I really enjoyed the footy. They came out ready to play and it was really a good bit of fun."

The physical contest against Wigan has left Brisbane in good stead for their Round 1 match-up against the 2016 Auckland Nines winning Eels in Parramatta.

Brisbane will need to be at their best if they are to get the two points in the season opener, with Parramatta having the wood over the Broncos in recent history.

In what is a worrying statistic for the Broncos, the Eels have won three out of their last five matches against Brisbane, including a 42-22 smashing at Suncorp Stadium in 2012.

Even in their recent struggles, Parramatta have not shown fear against an imposing Brisbane side that now boasts twelve international representatives across Australia, New Zealand, Samoa and Tonga.

It is a statistic that highlights the quality of players on Brisbane’s roster this season as the club looks to start the 2016 NRL Season on a positive note come next Thursday night’s clash with the Eels.

Wallace said although he is wary of a hungry Parramatta side, the World Club Series has left the team in great shape to start the season with a win.

"The boys had a great hit-out. We played some great footy and we really bonded well together," said Wallace.

"We’ll get back to the drawing board this week. We’ll have a few days off and then get back into training.

"We need to see what we can work on going into Week One against Parramatta away from home. They’ll be tough; they’re always tough down there.

"The boys played some good footy against Wigan so hopefully we can carry that on well into the season."
