Brisbane Broncos’ players Andrew McCullough and Greg Eden visited the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital thanks to the Children’s Hospital Foundation yesterday.

The pair surprised a number of children who were eager to take their mind off of their treatment and recovery, and it was evident by the smiles on their faces that the players’ visit was well received.

“We met a young boy by the name of Owen in recovery who clearly needed to be distracted from his time just sitting in the hospital ward,” said McCullough.

“As soon as we walked into his room you could see the excitement light up on his face. It’s an incredible feeling to be able to provide so much joy for children who are doing it tough.”

McCullough and Eden also paid a special visit to Broncos supporter Samuel Thorne, who coincidently marked his 100th day in hospital the same day as the player’s appearance.

The players were particularity moved in meeting Samuel, a little boy who has clearly gone through so much and has a long road to recovery.

“Meeting Samuel was a very special moment,” said Eden.

“It really puts life in perspective when you meet some of our devoted fans who are clearly going through a difficult time in their lives.

“We just hope that our visit has given him just that little bit of a boost.”

Samuel’s family, who were also present to meet the players, have been Broncos’ season members for two seasons and were overjoyed to see the players taking time away from their schedule for a hospital visit.

Unfortunately, Samuel will miss out on seeing his favourite team play live at Suncorp Stadium for quite a while, but received some signed Broncos gear from the players to keep by his bedside as he watches his favourite team on television this Friday night against the Warriors.
