THE NRMA Insurance Broncos have overcome atrocious conditions and a big Cowboys start to win the first trial of the year.

In Bundaberg English fullback Greg Eden and winger Aaron Whitchurch scored twice each as the Broncos steamrolled the Cowboys 48-26.

It was a slow start for the Broncos, who went down 10-0 before levelling up at 10-all and then were behind 22-10 at the halftime break.

But the injection of Anthony Milford from the bench provided the spark for the Broncos to come over the top.

However it was the muddy field that had everyone talking at the end of the game.

“It was probably as bad as conditions as we’ve played in for a long time but that was nobody’s fault," said coach Wayne Bennett.

“The quality of football from both teams was pretty good.

“The way we played the second half was really good.

“We sorted a few things out at halftime and came out better.”

Eden, Milford and Jordan Kahu were classy for the Broncos, while James Roberts scored his first try in the club's colours.

In the forwards Jarrod Wallace, Corey Parker and new recruit Herman Ese'ese did their jobs.
