Clark Ready to Roll

Clark Ready to Roll

Less than a week out from their first Premiership clash of the year, Rabbitohs forward Jason Clark says he and his teammates are ready to roll after a pre-season worth of preparations.

The Rabbitohs returned to training in mid-November of 2015 to begin their preparations for their 2016 campaign, and that work will be on display come Sunday at Allianz Stadium against arch-rivals, the Sydney Roosters.

“I think we’re ready – it’s come around pretty quick I think,” said Clark of the beginning of the season.

“We’re both foundation clubs and there’s a lot of history with both clubs. It’s at Moore Park too so we’re looking forward to all our Members heading out there and making lots of noise.”

The traditional Rabbitohs v Roosters rivalry has produced countless magic moments since the dawn of Rugby League in Australia in 1908, stretching back to the winning of Souths’ first ever Premiership in that year at Moore Park over the Bondi club.

But history won’t be on the mind of Clark on Sunday should he be selected to play by Rabbitohs Head Coach. Michael Maguire.

With regular front-rowers and twins, George and Thomas Burgess, set to miss the opening round clash through suspension and injury respectively, Souths Junior Clark could find himself in the Club’s front row.

Clark recently occupied one of the team’s prop-forward jumpers in the side’s trial against the Gold Coast Titans, setting up a try for Greg Inglis courtesy of a deft change of direction close to the line. For his part, Clark is conscious of playing his own game as opposed to replacing the likes of the Burgess twins.

“I definitely can’t replace them – I don’t think anyone could,” smiled Clark.

“They’re two big blokes – we’ll be doing the best we can and for myself, I’ll be doing the best I can to take that ball up for them.”
