Colgate and the Rabbitohs Making a Difference in Schools

Over 6000 Primary students across 26 local, South Sydney schools, benefited from a visit from the Rabbitohs on Tuesday thanks to Colgate, Souths Cares, and NRL Development, with players visiting schools to talk about health, wellness, and oral hygiene.

Working together since 2013, Colgate and the Rabbitohs have put smiles on children’s faces via a partnership developed through the common goal of improving the health and well-being of Aussie kids via effective education programs.

The partnership is brought to life through community-led programs and initiatives, driven by Souths Cares, and Colgate’s Bright Smiles, Bright Futures® oral health program.

Together with NRL staff, Rabbitohs players ran classes that saw enthusiastic students engaging not only with professional athletes, but with important life messages.

Rabbitohs forwards, Jason Clark and George Burgess, kicked off their afternoon at Pagewood Public School after a very warm welcome from students and staff.

Clark, himself a student in the local area who benefitted from visits from the Rabbitohs as a Primary student, believes school visits can be very powerful.

“George Burgess and I are heading around to three schools to spread the message and enjoying it,” said Clark.

“I was one of these kids sitting in the crowd so I loved it being at school. It is a good thing and I’d just like to think that it does drop something into the kids’ heads and it’s something that they’ll remember – the healthy eating and living the right lifestyle.”

Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures® is a well-established oral health education program for children and families to help children to understand the importance of brushing twice a day and taking responsibility for their own dental health at an early age.

The program, designed for children aged 3 to 9 years, brings dental health to life with ‘Dr Rabbit and the Tooth Defenders’ and via toothbrush and paste packs, educational DVDs and CDs, posters, stickers, brushing charts, learning guides and activity books.  The program helps to build self-esteem and good health practices to create lifelong habits of brushing twice a day.
