Early Injury Returns Working

The Broncos' stunning record of getting players back from injury early is no coincidence, says coach Wayne Bennett.

The run continued today when Jordan Kahu shocked all by getting through training to take his place against the Warriors tomorrow night at Suncorp Stadium.

Just seven days ago it was thought he could be out for a month with a thigh injury.

Even though scans dropped the prognosis to two weeks, to be ready less than a week later is amazing.

It is a recurring theme after Darius Boyd came back from an Achilles’ tendon rupture months early last year.

It was reinforced on Tuesday when Jack Reed was named to return from shoulder surgery three weeks early.

Kahu was another early surprise.

Bennett said the feeling around the team meant the players were motivated to get back into the jersey.

"These guys are committed and disciplined with their rehab because they all want to be back with a team that is playing well," he said.

"So they are motivated - that's why Jack is back, Jordan is back, and they are so committed to their rehab.

"They have been to all the doctors and had all the physical checks they have to have.

"No-one has been pushed back, they are coming back because they are fit to play.

"I think they just want to be in the team and don't want to be on the sidelines any longer than they have to be.

"Good clubs are like that."

Bennett said Kahu's injury had looked better straight after the game.

But he was put through a searching test this morning, and will take a spot on the wing outside James Roberts (calf), who also proved his fitness.

Greg Eden was the unlucky one, and will drop back to Intrust Super Cup with Wynnum.

"We realised after the game that it probably wasn't as serious as we all thought it was," said Bennett of Kahu's quadriceps tear.

"We are not going to play him if he's not ready and he did everything he was asked to do.

"He had no pain, no lack of movement, he was free to move, change direction, stop and start.

"As far as we are concerned, he is fit."
