IT is so close Greg Eden can almost taste it.

After biding his time for over 12 months in the Broncos' system the speedy English back finally has the chance to crack the NRL.

With Jack Reed and Lachlan Maranta both injured for round one, Eden was given the inside running today when he was named to start on the wing against Wigan on Saturday (Sunday morning Australian time).

He is one good World Club Series match away from cementing an NRL debut against the Eels in Sydney on March 3.

"It's just good to be playing," said Eden this morning from the Broncos' training base in London.

"All pre-season it's what players have been working towards, to try and get picked in those first trial games.

"It's what everyone one wants so to be picked is pretty nice.

"It's a good opportunity so we just have to keep working hard in training and impressing and keep doing the right things.

"It means everything to me to crack the NRL.

"It's the reason I came to Australia in the first place and it is on my wish list.

"It's the first step to doing it, this World (Club) Series game, and it is a step in the right direction."

The Castleford-born Eden played 74 Super League matches - for 39 tries - in four seasons in England before coming to Australia to fulfil his NRL goal.

His local knowledge is going to be handy this week as the Broncos prepare for the clash at JB Stadium.

Even though Eden has become more accustomed to Australian summers than English winters.

"It was pretty weird - the moment we got off the plane it was chilly and it reminded me of what it used to be like," he said of his arrival back in England.

"We have kind of adapted now.

"I think it's a general knowledge of how Wigan play - they have a bit of a different style to everyone else.

"A few lads have been watching videos so we know what to expect."

The match will be televised on 9's Gem channel from 5.40am Qld time on Sunday morning.
