PARRAMATTA will not be docked competition points after the club met the NRL’s list of governance requests.

Last year, the club was fined a whopping $525,000 fine for overspending in each of the four salary cap categories during the 2014 season. They also risked losing four competition points if they failed to sort out their front office by February 29 of this year.

The code’s governing body said on Wednesday that the Eels had satisfactorily completed the changes recommended by an independent review.

NRL head of integrity, Nick Weeks said that, based on the work undertaken by the club, Parramatta will not be docked any competition points prior to the start of the season.

“Both the NRL and the Eels believe these governance changes will help the club become more stable and, ultimately, more successful and that is what the fans and members want to see,” Weeks said.

Parramatta issued a statement following the announcement.

“Today’s announcement means our club is now in a strong and sustainable position for the future,” Parramatta Eels chairman Steve Sharp said.

“We have worked closely with the NRL to ensure that the reforms suggested by the Parramatta National Rugby League Board and the independent review would continue to enhance the governance of the club.”

“The Eels Board and senior management have worked incredibly hard to achieve this outcome and I want to thank all involved for their contribution.”

“Now that this has been put behind us, we would love to see the Blue and Gold Army out in force to support their team tomorrow night.”

The Eels take on the Broncos at Pirtek Stadium on Thursday night in the NRL’s season opener.
