Effort and Energy the Name of the Game

As the Rabbitohs prepare to play the Gold Coast Titans in their final trial of the 2016 pre-season, hooker Cameron McInnes says that effort and energy are what’s required.

The Gold Coast’s Pizzey Park will come alight on Saturday afternoon when the Rabbitohs take to the field to take on a strong Titans outfit to put the finishing touches on their preparations for the new season.

The Rabbitohs named a strong line-up earlier in the week to contest the match, with Greg Inglis, Adam Reynolds and Thomas Burgess all set to return from All Stars duty, while the match will also see the return of Sam Burgess, playing his first game of Rugby League since the 2014 Grand Final.

“It doesn’t matter if you’ve been here a long time or even just a few weeks – we’re all working towards the same goals and we’re committed to getting the things we’ve been working on right,” said McInnes.

“We’ve got a few players back this week which means we can start really working on those combinations going into the season, so it’s definitely an important game for us.

“We’re focused on putting our best foot forward, and that all comes down to effort and energy and making sure we’re doing all the little things right.”

The Pizzey Park stage will also provide opportunities to a number of young-guns and new faces in the South Sydney squad – all of whom have shown positive signs in both the Auckland Nines and the Charity Shield. But for McInnes, that commitment is all part and parcel of being a Rabbitoh.

“Anybody wearing a Souths jersey will do the job,” said the Souths Junior.

“I think we showed that commitment last week, and having some of the more senior boys back and involved will obviously only strengthen that and rub off.

“They all played great in the Charity Shield last week and I’m sure they’ll be taking all their opportunities moving forward.

“There’s a lot of enthusiasm in the squad and everyone’s been training the house down – for all of us it’s an opportunity to show what we can do and show how we work for each other.”
