YOU never know what is going to happen in rugby league, and Ben Hunt has had one of those periods.

After returning from a long-term hamstring injury, Hunt found himself playing Intrust Super Cup for affiliate club Ipswich two weeks ago.

Then last weekend he was called in by Queensland coach Kevin Walters to the Origin camp for four days as an extra man with Andrew McCullough.

This week he will play in the NRL against the Raiders, after being named by the Broncos yesterday as a utility on the bench.

Hunt said it had been an unusual time.

"It was a bit of a strange turn of events," he said.

"Everyone knows that Ipswich play a different style of footy and throw the ball around, so it was actually a bit of fun.

"Then Kevvie (Walters) gave me a call and told me he wanted me to come into Origin camp.

"It was a really big boost for me and I really enjoyed it.

"You go in there and you have excellence all around you because obviously they are the best players in the competition.

"You just go in there and try and soak up as much as you can."

Hunt said the Broncos next two matches against the Raiders and Storm were important in the context of the season.

"I just have to try and play the best footy I can, train hard and hopefully things will work out," he said of his spot in the team.

"It's a really big period for us to get through this Origin time strong.

"If you can get a few more wins it generally sets up the back end of your year and you have a good run into the finals.

"So if we can get a couple more wins before the end of Origin we will be happy."
