INJURY UPDATE | February 23

A fractured rib suffered by outside back Mitch Brown was the only significant injury concern to come from the Sharks trial match against the Wests Tigers.

Brown suffered the injury after coming onto the field late in the second half of the NRL trial and at this point in time is likely to be the only player unavailable for selection for round one of the competition proper in little over a weeks’ time.

Earlier in the day Brown had played the majority of the previous trial for the Sharks NSW Cup partner club the Newtown Jets.

Aside from the bumps and bruises that go along with the physical nature of rugby league, much to the relief of Coach Shane Flanagan, the Sharks came through the Tigers trial unscathed and will head into their match with the Cowboys at full strength.

Of those who retired from the match against the Tigers early in proceedings, after missing the Manly game with a minor quadriceps injury Gerard Beale got through 40 minutes of the trial match with no issues, while Sosaia Feki came from the field in the second half on Saturday as a precaution after suffering calf soreness.

Both will be fit and available for round one.

Of the others, Skipper Paul Gallen, who played 28-minutes of the Tigers match, felt no ill-effects from the calf problem which kept him out of All Stars and the Manly match the week prior and Jacob Gagan played half a game for Newtown in the NSW Cup trial in his first hit out of the season and was given a clean bill of health following the game.

The Sharks now have this weekend off ahead of what will be a difficult round one assignment against the North Queensland Cowboys up in Townsville.
