MITCHELL Dodds still has hopes of returning to the NRL this year with a worrying knee complaint requiring treatment rather than surgery.

The 2015 NRL Grand Final interchange forward has had a bumpy road with injury through his career, and it has continued since his return from the English Super League.

After breaking his leg playing with Warrington, Dodds had an operation in France that did not go as expected.

It cost him rehabilitation time upon his return to Australia, and while he has managed to get back on the field in the Intrust Super Cup with Wynnum, now a knee problem has flared.

Dodds has previously had two knee reconstructions, but Broncos’ High Performance Manager Jeremy Hickmans said it was hoped the latest issue would disappear with treatment over the next fortnight.

Dodds could be a handy forward for the Broncos to call on late in the season.

“He has some irritation on the knee joint related to previous injuries,” said Hickmans.

“He is doing rehabilitation now with a view to getting him back playing in a couple of weeks.

“That time frame will depend on how he progresses with that rehab.”
