Knights appoint three captains Written by STAFF WRITERS, February 26, 2016

NEWCASTLE Knights coach Nathan Brown has named three captains for the 2016 NRL season.

Veteran forward Jeremy Smith, back-rower Tariq Sims and new halfback Trent Hodkinson will lead the club.

Smith, 35, is a former Kiwi international and has played 54 games for the club since moving to Newcastle in 2013.

Sims, 26, joined the Knights from the Cowboys ahead of the 2015 season and has played 90 games to date.

Hodkinson, 27, is the Knights’ high profile recruit for the new season and arrives at the club with a wealth of experience having played 116 NRL games, along with six Origins for NSW.

Brown believes the trio will have a big impact off the field as much as on it.

“The way they are all held in the community is not going to be anything but in high esteem,” the coach said.

The joint captains will form part of a larger leadership group alongside Robbie Rochow, Dane Gagi and Tyler Randell.
