Lafai: Consistency Is Needed

St George Illawarra Dragons centre Tim Lafai concedes the team needs to put in a more consistent performance against local rivals the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks at Shark Park, Cronulla on Sunday.

The Red-and-Whites were narrowly defeated 18-16 in their opening round fixture against the Melbourne Storm but conceded the two competition points by not sticking to the game plan according to the Toa Samoa international.

Lafai, who made his club debut in the loss, notes that the team have since addressed these concerns in training leading into the derby game and keen to play his part in the changes.

“It’s always good to get that first game out of the way and it would have been better if we had of won but it was tight game and there were some positive signs,” said Lafai.

“I thought we started well in the first 15 to 20 minutes of the match but from there we started to go a bit away from our game plan in the second-half.

“We came back strongly towards the end and its one of those things we have addressed ahead of the Sharks.

“We need to start fast and strong like we did against the Storm but this time around maintain it throughout the game.

“We need to remain consistent on the field while also being imposing and tough.”
