Sharks forward Chris Heighington stands to miss the local derby match against the Dragons after being one of only three players charged from the weekend of matches.

Heighington has been charged with a grade one dangerous throw for a tackle on Cowboys prop Ben Hannant in the 27th minute of the match.

Should he accept an early guilty plea, Heighington would attract a 140 point penalty, with another 18 points to be added from a previous charge, meaning he would miss just the one match.

Were he to fight the charge and be unsuccessful with his challenge, the 187 points, plus the 18 carry-overs, would see him miss two matches.

The Sharks have until midday tomorrow to make a decision whether or not to challenge the match review committee charge.

Joseph Paulo was also charged for an incident while playing for Newtown in the NSW Cup, however with an early plea he will be free to play in the NRL if chosen, with the former Eels in the frame to replace either injured skipper Paul Gallen or Heighington should he be unavailable due to suspension.

The only other two players charge from the weekend were Jake Friend of the Roosters and Pauli Pauli from the Knights. Friend should be free to play in round two, while Pauli Pauli stands to miss one game.
