No ‘boring’ league from Jets boys

No 'boring' league from Jets boys

Ipswich Jets co-coach Shane Walker has promised there will be no ‘boring’ plays when his team takes on the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles on Saturday, February 20.

In one of the most exciting pre-season matches for 2016, the reigning Intrust Super Cup premiers will test their mettle against the Sea Eagles at Pittwater Park, Warriewood, at 6pm.

Along with his brother and co-coach Ben, the Ipswich Jets captivated the rugby league world last year with their unique attacking play under the Walker brothers.

Their entertaining style, which often comprises of short kick-offs and running backwards if needed when on the attack, saw the Jets earn the nickname of the ‘Harlem Globetrotters of Rugby League’.

“We don’t want to be like what everyone else does in rugby league and play a series of block plays that become too boring,’’ Shane said.

“Ben and I want to be entertained more than the fans. We don’t want to have to sit there and bore out way through 80 minutes of footy.

“There will be plenty of attacking rugby league when we take on the Sea Eagles. We are planning to turn in a good performance there.

“We like to keep the ball alive and the more times you keep it away from the opposition, the harder it is for them to score.  It also means they have to defend more and as a result, they burn morn energy.

“Hopefully the Manly boys won’t handle our style too well because we want to go down there and play well. It will be different to what they are used to playing.”

The only way supporters can see the Sea Eagles take on Ipswich is to be at Pittwater Park as there is no TV, radio, or live streaming internet coverage of the game.

Paid parking is available at a cost of $5 with entry via Walsh Street.
