NRMA Insurance yesterday held a unique event in the heart of Brisbane as part of their NRMA Try for the Better initiative.

NRMA Insurance challenged Corey Parker, Adam Blair, Jharal Yow Yeh and Justin Hodges to kick conversions across Brisbane River to raise funds for local Queensland community initiatives.

The challenge involved a custom set of NRL goal posts set up on a barge floating in the middle of the Brisbane River.

Fans were also invited to take part and increase the total amount of money raised, with the opportunity to win spot prizes. A total of $10,000 was raised throughout the event.

The activation is one element of NRMA Insurance’s new sponsorship campaign in partnership with the Brisbane Broncos, which aims to raise a total of $80,000 to support local community initiatives across Queensland.

NRMA Insurance will donate $250 for every single try scored by the club this season and for every successful conversion, this will be doubled to $500.

One of the beneficiaries of the NRMA Try for the Better campaign will be the Beyond the Broncos program, an initiative between the Brisbane Broncos and The Australian Federal Government, which aims to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students between years 10-12 with educational support.

Speaking about the event and campaign, Justin Hodges ex. Brisbane Broncos player said: “With this type of support from NRMA Insurance, Broncos Indigenous Program Support Officers like me and staff working with the program can further assist students stay in school and complete their secondary studies.

“Through supporting these initiatives, NRMA Insurance is also assisting to ensure young Indigenous people in Queensland have all the essential tools to continue into tertiary education after high school or pursue their career pathways.”

Speaking about the event and campaign, Paul White CEO of the NRMA Insurance Brisbane Broncos said: “NRMA Insurance has been a proud sponsor of the Brisbane Broncos for well over a decade and they certainly share the clubs passion for the QLD community.

“With this year’s NRMA Try for the Better campaign, we are proud to not only be partnering with NRMA Insurance on this initiative, but also the community organisations and programs that will be beneficiaries of the money raised from tries scored and successful conversions from the Broncos in 2016.

“This will generate additional funds to further their great work within the community”.
