PANTHERS backs George Jennings and Dean Whare will be sidelined after picking up injuries in last weekend’s trial win over the Bulldogs.

Jennings has been diagnosed with a acromial clavicular joint injury and will miss a month of action.

Kiwi international Whare will join Jennings on the sideline after sustaining a calf strain. The Panthers medical staff are hopeful though that the centre will be fit for the club’s season opener against the Raiders.

It is unclear who will lineup in the Panthers backline come round one with a number of players vying for a starting berth.

Junior Kiwi star Te Marie Martin was very impressive in the Panthers 24-20 trial win over the Bulldogs on the weekend and could very well be paired in the halves alongside new captain Matt Moylan who also impressed in the playmaking position.

This does not bode well for veteran pairing Jamie Soward and Peter Wallace who both struggled for form throughout 2016.

Coach Anthony Griffin has showed in the past he is not afraid to blood youth and with new recruit Peta Hiku a viable option at fullback, don’t be surprised to see Martin and Moylan fueling the Panthers attack in 2016.
