Panthers Run Away in Second Half for Victory in NSW Cup

The Panthers NSW Cup side have had a strong second half, defeating the Bulldogs 52-20 at Pepper Stadium.

After scores were level at 12-all at the half-time break, it was all the Panthers in the second half.

Both sides were met with the hot conditions and it showed from the outset with the play relatively slow and a few errors being made.

It was in the eighth minute that the scoreboard ticked over for the first time when Panthers winger Josh Hall scoring in the south-east corner. Halfback Sam Clune converted from out wide, giving the home side a 6-nil lead.

A quality ball from Lindon McGrady was then followed up by some quick footwork from centre Jerry Leasi saw him in open space and then over to score. Fullback Ben Baker converted and the scores were level at 6-all after 33 minutes.

The Panthers crossed through Tyrone May three minutes later, which was converted but that was followed in the final minute before the half-time siren by a try to Bulldogs winger Abraham El-Zakhem that was also converted, leaving the scoreboard reading 12-all at the break.

The second half was all the Panthers with the men in pink running in seven tries to two. The carnage began just three minutes after the restart, with tries then being scored in the 57th, 60th, 62nd, 66th and 69th minute. Five of those were converted with the home side skipping away to a 46-12 lead.

Two tries were scored in the final 10 minutes with prop forward and winger Marcelo Montoya both grabbing a four pointer. Neither try could be converted with the scoreboard reading 46-20.

With just seconds left before the final siren, the Panthers grabbed one more converted try, to confirm victory 52-20.
