Positions on the Line at Pizzey Park

With just one more sleep until South Sydney’s trial match against the Gold Coast Titans at Pizzey Park, positions in Head Coach Michael Maguire’s side are still well and truly on the line.

The men in Red and Green have had a number of opportunities to stake their claim for a position over the pre-season training period, while the Auckland Nines and Charity Shield have also provided the platform to impress.

Rabbitohs players will be looking to put their best foot forward on the Gold Coast tomorrow, among them, utility-forward Paul Carter, who will come off the side’s bench in jumper number 20.

Able to play virtually all positions in the forward-pack, Carter told Rabbitohs.com.au this week that he is working on his versatility in order to offer more to the team.

“At the moment I’m focusing on a number of different positions in the forwards – my edge back-row play and also in the middle,” said Carter.

“But I’ve also been getting in there at hooker too. All options are open at the moment and I’d like to nail as many positions and roles as I can for the team.

“I think the more versatility I can show and the more roles I can play, the better chance I am of being able to contribute to this team.

“I want to fix up a few errors that I had in my game last week,” said Carter.

“It was first game back so I obviously had a few cobwebs I had to blow out there, but also it’s about focusing on the systems we have within our team.

“Individually and as a team, we’re looking to make sure we’re nailing all of that stuff for the good of the side so we can get the win and set a good platform leading into Round 1 of the competition.”

Just four games into his career at the Rabbitohs, the Wyong Kangaroos product is as excited as ever to be lining up alongside the likes of Greg Inglis, Adam Reynolds and the rest of his teammates.

“I can’t wait to get out there and play with all those fellas,” said Carter.

“I got an opportunity to play alongside a lot of them last year which was incredible – we’ve got a very special squad and team here that’s very competitive.

“I think that’s shown during the pre-season so far both at training and in games, so we can’t wait to get out there.”
