RABBITOHS CEO John Lee has resigned from his position to join arch-rivals the Roosters.

The Redfern club confirmed that Lee, who took on the role in 2015, has left his post effective immediately.

Rabbitohs chairman Nick Pappas expressed his disappointment at losing Lee but wished him the best in his new role.

“John has many positive attributes and established excellent relations with our key stakeholders,” Pappas said.

“John enjoyed a good relationship with our Board, our investors and our Members.

“We wish him all the best for his next challenge.”

Lee will join the Roosters as a replacement for former chief operating officer Brian Canavan.

Canavan, who spent 18 years at the Roosters, left the club earlier this year to take up the newly created position of chief operating officer of the Gold Coast Titans.

“After an extensive process, we are delighted to appoint someone of John’s business, management and leadership experience to the role of Sydney Roosters Chief Executive Officer,” Roosters chairman Nick Politis said.

“Following the recent departure of our former Chief Operating Officer Football, Brian Canavan, after a total of 18 years loyal service to our Club, we took the opportunity to reassess the structure of our organisation, and there is no doubt that John is the best candidate to lead our Club and take our business forward.”

The Rabbitohs will now be on the hunt for a replacement for Lee but will install an interim CEO in the meantime.

The new CEO will eventually work alongside returning general manager of football Shane Richardson.
