Rabbitohs Taking Critical Approach to Game – Maguire

Improvement tops the list of priorities at Redfern according to Head Coach Michael Maguire, as his side prepares to clash with Newcastle at ANZ Stadium this Saturday.

While pleased with their first outing for the season last week – a 42-10 victory over the Sydney Roosters – the men in Red and Green didn’t waste time congratulating themselves, instead opting to analyse their game to identify areas for improvement.

“Credit to my players, they actually looked at a lot of things in that game that we need to make sure we’re getting stronger at,” said Maguire.

“There were times there where we had control of the ball and we kicked it dead a few times and various things like that.

“They’re the things that the team are looking very closely at  and we need to make sure we’re improving as a group.

“It’s about backing up and being consistent at what we’re doing. We’re at Round 1 and we’re going into Round 2, so we understand what’s in front of us, and whoever we’re playing we need to make sure we’re playing them well because in the (NRL) competition, you need to make sure you’re turning up every week.”

Maguire, named a revised South Sydney team on Tuesday afternoon following a number of injuries resulting from the Club’s Round 1 win. Click here to watch our Alcatel High Performance Update to get all the latest injury news.

But while Adam Reynolds, John Sutton, and Zane Musgrove are all set to spend time on the sidelines through injury, Maguire’s Round 2 side will showcase the Club’s depth with the likes of Premiership-winning five-eighth, Luke Keary and English international George Burgess set to come in as replacements in the starting line-up. Rabbitohs forward, Nathan Brown, comes onto the bench for an opportunity in the Red and Green.

“We obviously had a few bumps from last week’s game, but some real quality players coming in which is something that we’ve been building for quite some time here,” said Maguire.

“We’ve got George Burgess coming back in, Nathan Brown on the bench and Kirisome (Auva’a) coming back – so some quality boys there that I’m looking forward to seeing running around on Saturday.”

The Rabbitohs will wear limited edition Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice™ jerseys against the Knights.

The Batman and Superman logos – moulded together for the film – will take pride of place alongside the Rabbitohs logo on the Club’s traditional home strip on Saturday, as the men in Red and Green return to ANZ Stadium for their first home game of the new season.
