CANBERRA are in danger of losing try scoring ace Sisa Waqa to French rugby union – as early as this week.

The Fijian international has been in secret talks with French officials for weeks and RLW hears he may be getting an immediate release.

Waqa was the Raiders’ 18th man in the win over the Panthers last week and Canberra coach Ricky Stuart wants to keep him.

But if Waqa ‘retires’ from league and chooses to play a different sport, the Raiders will struggle to keep him.

The 29-year-old Waqa is contracted to the Raiders until the end of next season and has a proven try scoring rate at both the Storm and Raiders in recent seasons.

His ability to play wing, centre and fullback also makes him a valuable asset.

But Waqa knows his next contract is probably going to be his last one and he is looking at a big payday in French rugby.
