Raiders lose both halves

Raiders lose both halves Written by STAFF WRITERS, March 7, 2016

LIKE the Rabbitohs, the Raiders round one win has come at a huge cost after the club confirmed their star halves pairing would be out for four to six weeks.

Five-eighth Blake Austin has sustained a medial ligament strain and is set for a return in round five at the earliest.

Star recruit Aidan Sezer, who grabbed two tries on debut in the win over the Panthers, has suffered a fractured eye socket and will be back round four at the earliest.

Ricky Stuart will now likely shift fullback Jack Wighton into the halves alongside Sam Williams. Jordan Rapana could well move to fullback with Sisa Waqa likely to be recalled to the wing from the NSW Cup.

The injury is a major setback for Austin who returned to action after off-season shoulder surgery. Many believe he is the answer for NSW in the halves and will now likely only get four to five games to impress before Blues coach Laurie Daley picks his side.

The Raiders are also without new recruit Adam Clydsdale who is expected to return from a shoulder injury in round three.
