U20 Thunderbolts v Easts Tigers

The Thunderbolts opened the three-way trial with a 20-8 win in their first appearance at Sunshine Coast Stadium thanks to an energetic performance.

Both sides traded penalties to open the contest before Eric Smith’s side opened the scoring on the left wing through Cory Parker.

Their lead did not last long, with the visiting Tigers summoning an immediate response scoring from their next possession as Michael Pouhila ties the scores.

As errors began to creep into the contest from both sides, the Thunderbolts managed to piece together back to back four pointers to gain the ascendency.  Showing a strong willingness to run hard with the ball in hand, Josh Kerr barged through under the posts before Parker’s second gave the young outfit a 14-4 advantage.

The Thunderbolts and Tigers traded tries to end the 40 minutes, with the Storm U20s finishing with a promising showing.

Sunshine Coast Falcons v Easts Tigers

It took 20 minutes until the opening score of the contest between Storm’s two Queensland Cup feeder teams, Easts Tigers and the Sunshine Coast Falcons.

The Falcons broke the drought, with five-eighth Alex Bishop handing his side the lead. Not letting the match slip away, the Tigers leveled proceedings when Leon Ellia-Nuilore created an overlap on the left wing.

However the Falcons managed to reinstate the lead they held for the majority of the contest when Callum Klein scored the winner with four minutes remaining.

Sunshine Coast Falcons v U20 Thunderbolts

The Sunshine Coast Falcons made it back-to-back wins in the three-way trial, accounting for the Thunderbolts 18-6.

Connor Toui opened the scoring for the Falcons after a charge down on a Thunderbolts kick bounced fortuitously, eventually setting up the halfback.

After defending strongly and holding out the Falcons, the Storm U20s were propelled up field off the back of back-to-back penalties and made the most of their attacking incursion. Fullback Jesse Arthars scored and converted his own try to tie the scores at 6-6.

A fast finishing Falcons outfit completed the match strongly, scoring two unanswered tries to run out 18-6 victors.
