Cameron Smith stands in front of the plane Tigerair have named after the Storm, Queensland and Australian captain.

The Cameron Smith plane was today unveiled at Melbourne airport as Storm and Tigerair announced a five-year sponsorship extension.

Storm CEO Dave Donaghy and Tigerair CEO Rob Sharp were alongside Smith for the announcement as well as young teammates Cameron Munster and Young Tonumaipea.

The aeroplane, Tigerair’s new A320, will now proudly display the name of the Storm, Queensland and Australian skipper. The Storm logo will also feature near the tail of the aircraft.

Storm fans will also be able to take advantage of flight voucher giveaways and innovative game-day advantages as part of the sponsorship that will extend until the end of the 2020 NRL season.

Speaking to the media at Melbourne airport, Smith was taken aback by the grand gesture of having an aircraft named after him.

“I think it has come up quite nicely actually with the Melbourne Storm logo near the tail and I’m just very honoured to be on an aircraft flown by Tigerair,” he said.

“It is a great opportunity for our fans to follow us around when we play interstate. Tigerair does fly to several other destinations up and down the coast where we play football.”

The Storm boss also spoke of the Club’s pleasure at extending the partnership with the Victorian-based airline.

Be there in Round 1 on Monday 7 March at AAMI Park.

“Tigerair has been a wonderful addition to the Melbourne Storm family and we thank them for the support and confidence that they’ve shown in our club,” Dave Donaghy said.

“We are a proud partner of Tigerair, they are a Melbourne based company that is not afraid to take it to their competition.”

Tigerair CEO Rob Sharp echoed the sentiments and spoke of the synergy between the two organisations.

“We are proud to announce the five-year extension as premium partner and official airline partner of Melbourne Storm.

“From our perspective this partnership is a perfect fit. We are proud to call Victoria home and Storm is widely recognized as one of the state’s most successful and respected sporting teams.”
