Roberts Charged On Busy Day For Judiciary

JAMES Roberts has been charged by the judiciary for patting a referee on the chest on a huge day for the NRL match review committee.

Nine players were charged today, including three out of the Broncos-Warriors match.

Roberts received a grade one contrary conduct charge for contact with a match official, even though it was not in a threatening manner.

The incident happened in the second-last minute of Friday’s 25-10 win over the Warriors.

The Broncos must decide before tomorrow whether they will take the early guilty plea or fight the charge.

No matter which way they go, Roberts will still be eligible to play against the Panthers at Pepper Stadium on Saturday night.

The charge only comes with a 125-point base penalty, and Roberts has no loading from previous offences.

An early guilty plea would get the carry-over point total down to 93 points and leave the speedy centre free to play.

Warriors Jacob Lillyman and Ben Matulino were charged for suspect tackles on Broncos.

Lillyman will get off with an early guilty plea for a high tackle on Jordan Kahu, while Matulino faces three to four weeks for a shoulder charge that left Corey Oates injured (see this incident on the match highlights video above).

Raider Joseph Leilua has two charges, for dangerous throw and contrary conduct, and can get down to two weeks with early guilty pleas.

Eel Man Ma’u faces a week for a dangerous contact on the head/neck charge.

Storm winger Marika Koroibete (dangerous throw), Cowboy Matt Scott (dangerous contact – head/neck) and Dylan Napa (high tackle) can all get off with early guilty pleas.
