KNIGHTS back-rower Joseph Tapine has informed the club that he’ll be departing Newcastle at the end 2016.

Tapine, 21, made his NRL debut for the Knights in round nine of the 2014 and has gone on to play 20 games to date.

The Raiders are the heavy favourites to sign the young forward after reportedly tabling a lucrative three-year deal.

Knights CEO Matt Gidley expressed his disappointment in not being able to retain Tapine.

“Our club made Joseph a significant offer that took into consideration his career to date, potential and the current player market, and while disappointed with the outcome we are comfortable with our process,” Gidley said.

“We understand how difficult a decision this has been for Joseph and wish him the best for the future.”
