LACHLAN Croker is the promising young Canberra star getting rave reviews as a potential first-grader this season, but there are more where he comes from.

Raiders under-20s coach and former international Brett White says Chevi Ellis will push hard for a first-grade debut as well.

Ellis is an exciting centre, winger or fullback who turned 19 last month and White tells RLW that if a spot opens up in first grade this season the New Zealand-born powerhouse is capable of taking it.

“Chevi played in the Auckland Nines. He’s a big, strong, athletic kid and after Lachlan Croker he’s probably the next one I’d be looking at as having the potential to kick on into first grade at some stage this season,” White says.

“If any of the starting centres or wingers went down injured or whatever, Chevy would be in the mix of players pushing to come in. He’s done the pre-season with the NRL squad, so obviously ‘Sticky’ (first-grade coach Ricky Stuart) rates him.

“As far as the young guys who haven’t yet made their debuts in first grade go, I’d say he’d be one of the next few cabs off the rank.”
