Why round two is a tipster’s nightmare

Why round two is a tipster’s nightmare Written by STAFF WRITERS , March 10, 2016

IT might look like a round full of specials and a good chance to pick up some big points in your tipping comp but be warned – round two results from the last few years show a high percentage of first-up winners come crashing back to earth in the second week.

In 2012, 2013 and 2014, only three first-round winners managed to make it two on the trot, while the other five winners all came crashing back to earth in round two.

There was a slight improvement last year for first-round winners with four of the eight making it two-from-two in round two but the warning bells are there for this weekend.

The Bulldogs, Rabbitohs, Broncos and Storm all look absolute morals to take care of teams that were beaten in round one – Penrith, Knights, Warriors and Titans respectively.

But the stats tell us it’s hard to maintain the rage from round one and also that the first-up losers invariably hit back hard after being embarrassed in round one.

So whether you follow your heart, your head or these cold, hard stats just tread carefully in round two . . . it can be a trap.
