The St George Illawarra Dragons on Tuesday, February 13 travelled throughout the St George region for their annual community blitz.
Together the blitz saw a total of 12 schools accounted for, with most of the visits culminating with football clinics that helped encourage kids to play rugby league.
Hundreds of kids were able to meet their favourite Dragons players including Jack de Belin, Jason Nightingale and Matt Dufty as well as new faces Ben Hunt and Jeremy Latimore.
Players and staff were joined by NRL Game Development Officers in delivering the Dragons Wellbeing Program to local students prior to the football clinics.
The Dragons participated in education lessons with students, focusing on the importance of nutrition, belonging, respect and their overall wellbeing.
Dragons back-rower Luciano Leilua visited Athelstane Public School in his local area of Arncliffe on Tuesday and was pleased to give back to the area he’s called home for many years.
“I always enjoy getting out to the local community and schools and seeing all the excited kids,” Leilua said.
“Having grown up in the local area I always enjoy getting home and giving back to the kids because not too long ago I was in their shoes.
“Everyone in the St George region loves their footy and hopefully one day we’ll see some of them become future St George Illawarra Dragons.”
