Match Preview: NRL Round 2 vs. Manly

Wests Tigers will look to secure back-to-back wins to start 2016 when they take on the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in their Round 2 clash Leichhardt Oval.

With a strong Monday night record at the suburban ground, the home side head into the clash welcoming the return of Luke Brooks and Dene Halatau from suspension.

Their inclusions see Manaia Cherrington and Kyle Lovett switch back to the bench, with Jack Littlejohn and Jack Buchanan returning to the Intrust Super Premiership competition.

Wests Tigers winger David Nofoaluma has scored six tries from seven games played at Leichhardt Oval, and will look to add to his try scoring tally against Sea Eagles winger Brayden Wiliame, who astonishingly is yet to taste victory as a player in the top grade after 11 appearances for Manly and Parramatta in the last three seasons.

Manly head into the match with a range of new recruits in particular Martin Taupau, who returns to face his former teammates for the first time after departing the Club in 2015.

Rugby League experts believed the men from the Northern Beaches would fire straight away in 2016; however, the new look Sea Eagles side were outplayed by a dominant Canterbury outfit — something that has the Wests Tigers on red alert for Monday evening.

Members and supporters will be hoping for a repeat performance the last time the Sea Eagles visited Leichhardt Oval, with two tries to David Nofoaluma and four pointers from Robbie Farah, Chris Lawrence and Aaron Woods securing a 34-18 win in 2014.

A two-try performance from Mitchell Moses was not enough for a Wests Tigers outfit last time they met, going down to Manly at Brookvale Oval in slippery conditions. Kevin Naiqama and now departed veteran winger Pat Richards also crossed for tries; however, the home side was too good on the night despite a comeback from the visitors late in the game.
