The young Cowboys outfit fielded nine National Youth Competition debutantes in last weekend’s first-up loss to the Sharks. The team started well and led 16-6 at the half, but were outclassed and out-muscled in the second half by a hungrier opposition.

Coach Aaron Payne will be looking for better ball control against the Eels, with several errors in tricky conditions costing the side dearly in the second half.

The Eels were impressive last week in dispatching 2015 finalists Brisbane 32-18, with fleet-footed winger Jermaine Mati-Leifi scoring a hat-trick.

Coach Aaron Payne: “The Eels are coming off a strong win so we’ll need improvement across the board.”
