SAM Thaiday says he will only ever be a Bronco and if that means being a front rower, he is ready to take up the role.
Thaiday was named at prop and captain for the Broncos’ opening trial of the year against the Titans on Saturday.
It is a role he is expected to be thrust into more often this year as the Broncos search for a winning formula.
And while he has played mainly at second row during his career, Thaiday said a move to ‘the engine room’ was fine with him.
“I know I will be playing a bit of front row,” he said.
“Front row is fine with me – I have played a lot of football there now.
“I am sure I won’t be playing long, long minutes at front row.
“But it is a job and role that has to be done for the team, so I am more than happy to do it.”
Thaiday is also set to go back in time as he leads out the Broncos at Clive Berghofer Stadium in Toowoomba.
Thaiday came through the lower grades when Toowoomba was the feeder club, so has many happy memories of the regional centre.
“I am looking forward to getting back to Toowoomba,” he said.
“That is where it all started for me, playing for the Toowoomba Clydesdales back in the day.”
